Siluni Gunathilake BSc

Development of chemo sensors to detect copper ions in water supplies: Real-time environmental monitoring.

Siluni earned her BSc in Chemistry from Kingston University London in 2023. In her final year research project supervised by Dr Stephen Wren she explored optimal reaction conditions for the commonly used Claisen Rearrangement reaction. After her graduation in the summer of 2023, Siluni decided she wanted to continue the life of a synthetic research chemist and opted to pursue a MRes within the Wren Group. Siluni’s current research focus is on the development of novel chemo-sensors to detect the presence of transition metals (specifically Cu (II)) ions in water supplies. Outside of the research lab and conducting synthetic chemistry, Siluni has a passion for exploring new places in and around London, particularly quiet and natural landscapes. Siluni is currently in the process of upgrading her MRes project to a PhD project.
