Nathan Long MSci
Synthesis of a toolbox of bioisosteric building blocks for drug discovery
Nathan was born and raised in Essex, on the South East coast. After completing A-Levels in Chemistry, Biology and Law he joined Queen Mary University of London (QMUL) and studied an integrated masters in Pharmaceutical Chemistry. During his time at QMUL, Nathan took part in two summer internship programmes developing positive allosteric modulators for the treatment of obesity and arthritis. His final year research project was focussed on developing a photoinduced difluoromethylation methodology. After not graduating in person in the summer of 2020 due to the Covid-19 pandemic, Nathan joined the Wren group based at Kingston University London. His current project revolves around developing a toolbox for novel bioisosteres which can be later implemented into drug discovery studies.
Outside of the research environment, Nathan works in an amongst the West End theatre community as a lighting technician. His years in the industry have seen him work on 'hit' large scale musical and theatrical productions including 'Wicked', 'War Horse', 'Les Misérables' and 'The Phantom of the Opera'.
