Miles Benardout BSc

Discovery of fructose scavengers for the treatment of gastrointestinal complaints

Miles was born in Kingston, London and obtained his undergraduate BSc at Kingston University.  Miles graduated in the summer of 2019 after completing his final year undergraduate extensive research project under the supervision of Dr Stephen Wren.  Such research had Miles focusing on developing synthetic methodologies to generate benzoxazoles in a one pot synthetic reaction starting from dithioesters.  Miles was ranked top  in terms of overall performance for his entire academic cohort.  Having successfully passed his upgrade viva in February 2021 Miles is the longest serving member of the Wren Group.  Miles's current project focuses on the development of novel fructose scavengers for the treatment of gastrointestinal conditions.  Miles is highly interested in making connections between lab based synthetic procedures and in silico work to design novel molecules with desirable pharmacological properties.

Outside of the lab, Miles has a keen interest in sport following Queens Park Rangers, looking after small potted house plants as well as learning more about the world around us.
